Research on over 550 AHDS members who relied on their employer taking the right tax off their pay and who each completed a tax review, showed 83% had paid too much tax and were owed money by HMRC – an average of £304 each. One member was owed over £2,200.
It's happened because members, and employees in general, assume their employer has taken the right tax off their pay. They also assume HMRC gives them the correct tax code every year and if it was wrong, their employer would know and sort it for them. All these assumptions are wrong!
Your employer uses your Tax Code to work out how much tax they must take off your pay, but if they're given the wrong code by HMRC, they'll take the wrong amount of tax and it's almost always too much.
Every year HMRC issues a tax code and points out that it is your responsibility to check they've given you the right tax code. It's not something your employer can do for you. However, checking your own code assumes you understand the PAYE tax rules, would know if your code was wrong and can work out how much HMRC needs to pay you back. And you need to be able to do this for each of the last 4 years and this current tax year.
If you haven't got a clue how to do this, then you're not alone, which is why the AHDS has directed you to us, so you can find out if you have paid too much tax in the last 4 years and get your money back if you have.
We'll conduct a full tax review of your current and past 4 years tax affairs, checking absolutely everything. We'll then provide you with a written report telling you what's been checked and whether it was correct or not.
If there are errors, you will be given the fully completed HMRC Refund Claim Forms (which may be up to 60 pages) and an indication of the amount HMRC owes you. Full instructions will be provided so you can get HMRC to correct the errors, issue a tax refund and where applicable, correct your current tax code to increase your take home pay. Fee - £25 inc. VAT.
If HMRC owes you money and would like us to manage correspondence with HMRC on your behalf, you will have the option, once you know how much you are likely to get back, to upgrade to our Review & Correct Service following completion of your review. Fee - £50 inc. VAT.
Should you not wish to pay an upfront fee, you will have the option of using our Commission based Review & Correct service - the review is free and where you receive a tax refund, there is a fee of £35+vat for the first £100 refunded and £0.35+vat per £1 thereafter.
The first step is to see if you need a review – which takes about 2 minutes.
Click the green button below, spend a few minutes answering the simple questions and we'll let you know if you need a review and give you an indication of how much you could be owed. If it looks like HMRC might owe you money, you will need to click the button marked "Find Out More" which will be showing on your screen.
